Hertz CDP vs Coupon — Which Saves More?
This guide explains exactly how each works, when each tends to win, and what to watch out for when combining them.
How Hertz CDP Codes and Coupons Work Differently
Hertz CDP Codes — Where the Percentage Savings Come From
A Hertz CDP (Corporate Discount Program) reduces the base daily rate by a percentage. There are three types:
- Membership CDPs — tied to AAA, AARP, Costco, Mastercard, military, union, teacher, and other organisations. Proof required at pickup. The AAA CDP also waives the underage surcharge for members aged 20+.
- Corporate CDPs — negotiated by employers for their staff. Often usable for personal rentals depending on employer policy.
- Promotional CDPs — issued by Hertz for seasonal campaigns with no membership required. Available to any renter — and included in the CarRentalSavers.com discount dropdown.
Hertz Coupons — Additional Savings on Top
A Hertz coupon is applied on top of the CDP-discounted rate and can provide:
- Percentage off — a percentage reduction applied on top of the base rate. In some cases this percentage can be higher than the CDP percentage, making the coupon the bigger saving of the two — particularly on shorter rentals or when a strong promotional coupon is available
- A free additional rental day — typically on weekly rentals
- Money off — fixed dollar amount off the total
- Free upgrade — move up one vehicle class at no extra cost
| Hertz CDP Code | Hertz Coupon Code | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Reduces base daily rate by a percentage | Adds a fixed saving on top of CDP rate |
| Discount type | Percentage (e.g. 20–25% off) | Percentage off (which can sometimes exceed the CDP %), free day, money off, free upgrade |
| Who qualifies | Members, employees, or any renter (promotional CDPs) | Anyone — no membership required |
| Proof at pickup | Yes (membership) or No (promotional) | No |
| Expiry | Ongoing (membership) or campaign-based (promotional) | Fixed expiry date |
| 24-hour advance booking required | No — CDP applies to same-day bookings | Yes — coupon will not apply if booking is made less than 24 hours before pickup |
| Risk if invalid | Low — invalid CDP simply produces no discount | High — invalid coupon can hide Pay Later rates and remove CDP saving |
| Field to enter | CDP Number field | Coupon / Promotion Code field |
| Can be combined | Yes — with most verified coupons | Yes — with most CDPs, if the coupon is valid |
Pricing Example — CDP vs Coupon vs Both Combined
| Booking Method | 5-Day Total | Saving vs No Code |
|---|---|---|
| No CDP, no coupon (base rate) | $595 | — |
| CDP only (e.g. AAA Discount) | $384 | $211 |
| Coupon only (e.g. 25% Off) | $470 | $125 |
| CDP + Coupon stacked | $300 | $295 |
Rates vary by location, dates, and availability. Search CarRentalSavers.com/hertz with your specific dates to see current pricing with both codes applied.
CDP or Coupon — Which Saves More?
When the CDP clearly wins:
- When the CDP percentage rate is higher than the available coupon percentage rate for your specific dates and location
- During peak periods when promotional coupons are blacked out — CDPs are usually less restricted
- When you're 20–24 and an AAA member — the underage fee waiver from the AAA CDP can save more than the percentage discount itself
- When no meaningful coupon is currently available and the CDP provides the only available discount
When a coupon can outperform:
- When the coupon percentage exceeds the CDP percentage — Hertz occasionally offers promotional coupons with a percentage reduction higher than the available CDP rate. Always compare both on CarRentalSavers.com to confirm which produces the lower total for your specific dates
- Short 1–2 day rentals where a strong coupon represents a larger saving than the CDP percentage in dollar terms
- During off-peak periods when Hertz releases high-percentage promotional coupons that exceed typical CDP rates
- When a free upgrade coupon combined with a CDP moves you to a significantly higher vehicle class at the CDP-discounted lower class price
When stacking is the right answer (most of the time):
- In most scenarios — apply the CDP and a verified coupon together. Since both can offer percentage discounts, stacking means you benefit from whichever is higher plus the additional saving from the other
- When you have a strong membership CDP (AAA, Mastercard, Costco) and a current Hertz coupon from CarRentalSavers.com is available
- When combining the AAA CDP underage waiver with any coupon for 20–24 year old renters
How to Apply Both a CDP and Coupon on CarRentalSavers.com
- Go to carrentalsavers.com/hertz
- Enter pickup location, dates, and times
- Select your Hertz discount (CDP) from the discount dropdown — if you don't have a membership CDP, still check — promotional CDPs for all renters are included
- Select a Hertz coupon from the coupon dropdown — only verified, currently active codes are shown
- Click Search — results show the combined discounted total with Pay Later rates visible
- Ensure you are booking at least 24 hours before pickup — Hertz coupons do not apply to same-day bookings. Your CDP will still reduce the rate, but the coupon saving will be lost on same-day bookings.
- To compare CDP-only vs stacked, run the search again with "No Coupon Selected"
- Enter your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards number at checkout — it cannot be added after booking
